After serving three churches in North Carolina in part-time capacities, Derek has returned home to northern Illinois.  He is currently a provisional elder in the United Methodist Church and is pursuing ordination.  Polo First UMC is his first full-time charge.  Derek is passionate about preaching and teaching, as well as serving the Lord through mission.

When Derek is not engaged in the work of the church he is usually with his family or friends.  He is an avid sports fan and faithfully follows the Cubs, Bears, and Bulls as well as the University of Illinois and the Duke University athletic teams.  He loves to read, watch movies, and travel.

Jean Frey, Choir and Bells Director

We have a very active senior choir and bell choir at Polo First UMC.  

Our bell choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 PM, and they play during worship on the second Sunday of the month.  

Our senior choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings starting at 7 PM, and they sing during worship every Sunday of the month.

We always welcome the presence of children during the service.  Although, there is child care provided every Sunday.  

A nursery attendant is available for ages 0 to 2 years old at the beginning of the service if needed.  

And all children younger than kindergarten have the option of going with the Kiddee Keeper following the children's time of the service.
